The new Amersham Hospital, officially opened by HRH the Duke of Kent in February 2001, gives the local community a pleasant environment in which improved services and facilities can be provided. The hospital houses a number of non-emergency and specialist services, outpatient and day treatment departments, such as Ophthalmology, Speech & Language Therapy, Podiatry, Hydrotherapy, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapies.

Also the hospital has an Older Adults Care Unit and offers inpatient and respite care for patients with dementia. The new facility was constructed on the site of temporary hospital buildings which had originally been erected by the military in 1939/1940. These "temporary" buildings were still in use in the late 1990s by which time they were in a poor state of repair.
